Obvious advantages?

[edit]

And what, pray tell, are the "obvious advantages" of 12 cylinders over 16? I could hazard guesses ranging from lower friction to less space taken up to lower initial cost, but it really doesn't pay to assume something like that will be "obvious" to the reader. Because it isn't. We aren't all rail experts..45Colt 20:22, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree wholeheartedly with .45Colt & encourage anyone with ICE (internal combustion engine) expertise to update this statement. Further, as an engineer (of neither locomotives nor ICEs,) I'm sure the V12 vs V16 decision is a matter of tradeoffs. In other words, I suspect there is no "obvious" advantage of cylinder count without taking other technological advances into account. 77th Trombone (talk) 17:52, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
